Brenan House Residential Home

Brenan House provides personal care to up to 16 older people in one adapted building. At inspection, 13 people were using the service. While residents felt safe, significant concerns emerged. Risk assessments for newly admitted people had not been completed, and existing assessments lacked robustness with no guidance for staff to manage identified risks. Accidents and incidents were recorded but not analysed for patterns. Fire safety checks were incomplete and staff had not conducted fire drills. Medicine management had gaps, with some people not receiving prescribed medications as intended.

Additional issues included inconsistent checks and audits with inadequate follow-up on identified shortfalls. Staff lacked regular supervision and up-to-date training. Although the home was clean and odour-free, communal spaces were cluttered with equipment and furniture, restricting residents' use of these areas. Improvements identified at the previous inspection had not been maintained, indicating a deterioration in service quality.
