Berwick Grange

This residential care home supports up to 52 older people, including those living with dementia, across three separate units. Two units specialise in nursing care for people with advanced dementia. At inspection, 39 people were using the service. Staff demonstrated good knowledge of the people they supported and how to meet their needs.

However, the service faced significant challenges. Heavy reliance on agency staff negatively impacted care quality, with staff reporting that agency workers sometimes lacked understanding of residents, increasing their distress. Staffing levels and deployment were not always sufficient to meet people's needs. Care plans and risk assessments were not consistently effective in outlining individual needs and appropriate support strategies. Provider audits and oversight proved ineffective in monitoring and addressing concerns, with identified actions not always implemented promptly.
