Apple Trees Care & Reablement Centre

This care home provides accommodation and support for 64 older people, including those living with dementia, across four separate households. At the time of inspection, one unit was designated for transitional care for people recovering from COVID-19 following hospital discharge. Staff demonstrated good awareness of protecting people's privacy and encouraging independence, and relatives reported that staff treated residents with care and respect. However, night staffing levels did not always meet people's needs, particularly since the introduction of the designated setting affected how staff were allocated and their ability to provide timely care.

While medicines were generally managed safely, minor errors were not consistently reported. Risk management information appeared in care plans, but some safety risks were not always effectively managed in practice. Quality monitoring processes existed, but analysis of incidents such as falls did not clearly identify themes and trends. The home had infection prevention and control practices in place, and staff understood how to protect people from abuse. Staff supported people to have maximum choice and control over their lives, using the least restrictive approaches in line with their best interests.
