Acorn Nursing Home

Acorn Nursing Home provides personal and nursing care to 34 people, including older people and those living with dementia. At inspection, 30 people were using the service. Inspectors found significant concerns with risk management systems, which were not in place to properly assess, review and monitor risks relating to people's health, safety and welfare. Medicines were not managed safely, and care records lacked consistent person-centred approaches with monitoring being inconsistent. While some audits and quality checks existed, they were not effective in identifying shortfalls.

People and relatives reported feeling safe and said staff were caring, with sufficient staff available to provide support when needed. The service supported people to have maximum choice and control of their lives, with staff supporting them in the least restrictive way possible. Recruitment was managed effectively. Inspectors recommended improvements to how the involvement of people and their representatives in decisions are recorded.
