The Shrubbery

The Shrubbery, in Sandwell, is a care home providing personal care for up to 30 people, including older people, people living with dementia, and people with a learning disability or who are autistic. The CQC rated the home as Requires Improvement, following a review of concerns about risk management. Inspectors found people were not always supported to make their own choices, with a routine of getting people up before they were ready rather than person-centred care, and limited social activities and engagement.

Staff were kind and people said they felt safe, with a dedicated, experienced team who managed risk well and worked closely with health professionals. However, the CQC found breaches of regulation relating to governance and person-centred care, and noted staff were often too task-focused to spend time engaging with residents socially.
