Boughton Lodge Care Home

Boughton Lodge Care Home provides accommodation and personal care for up to 19 older people in a single adapted building. At inspection, 17 people were using the service. However, significant concerns were identified regarding the home's management and oversight. The provider and registered manager failed to maintain adequate systems for fire and water safety, gas, electric equipment checks, and general health and safety monitoring. Infection control and cleanliness were not properly monitored, and there were no systems to identify when improvements were needed.

Staff deployment at night was insufficient to meet people's needs and maintain health and safety standards. People were not always protected from harm and abuse, as staff did not consistently understand how to recognise and report safeguarding concerns. Recruitment procedures were not properly monitored, and the home failed to follow safe recruitment practices. Risk assessments were not always reviewed when people's needs changed. Although staff had received safeguarding and medicines management training, the provider did not verify their competencies in these critical areas. The service also lacked systems to monitor and analyse accidents and incidents to identify trends and drive improvements.
