New Street provides short-stay respite care for up to two people with learning disabilities or autistic spectrum disorder. However, the inspection identified significant concerns around legal safeguards. The home had not submitted required Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards authorisation requests, which are legally necessary when people may be deprived of their liberty to receive care and treatment. Additionally, some people did not have completed mental capacity assessments in place. While staff had received training in the Mental Capacity Act, inspectors found further improvement was needed to ensure full compliance with these important protections.
