There are no care home beds anywhere near us

My parents have been married for decades and both now need round the clock care. The assessment has been done, it was pushed through quickly and everything has been signed off, so on paper we should be sorted. The problem is that there is simply nothing available. We spent a whole day visiting home after home locally and came away with nothing suitable, either no vacancies at all or rooms that physically can't take two single beds.

A few people have gently suggested we accept placing them separately. After a lifetime together that feels like the last thing we want to do, but I'm starting to wonder if we'll have any choice.
