Does it just come down to money when choosing a care home?

We've been visiting homes for the past few weeks and I'm starting to wonder whether all the advice about checking cqc ratings and talking to staff and watching how residents are treated actually matters, or whether in the end you just go with whatever you can afford in the right area. Has anyone felt like the decision was taken out of their hands by budget?

Don't overlook homes that are Requires Improvement, some are actively working to turn things around and the care can still be good. Worth reading the full inspection report not just the headline rating. CareHomeGuide has the full reports for every home.

I think it does unfortunately. We had a shortlist of four homes and two of them were ruled out within the first conversation about fees. You do your research but the budget narrows it down fast.
